This position is a deputy prosecuting attorney position for the state of Idaho, working in and for the county of Shoshone. The selected attorney may share in a diverse caseload that can expose them to a wide range of prosecution practice, including criminal and civil. The selected attorney will work closely with local law enforcement agencies, elected officials, and community advocacy groups, as well as in multi-disciplinary teams or diversion programs when assigned. Provided training can be sought in areas of particular interest for the selected attorney. A small portion of the attorney’s assigned caseload
may consist of prosecution of municipal matters. Flexibility in scheduling and generous benefits highlight this position and a collaborative work environment ensures that court coverage is available to accommodate requests for time off.
This Office places a particular focus on implementing best practices to improve prosecution outcomes such as evidence-based case building, working with advocates and furthering coordinated agency responses within the community. Due to the rural and tight-knit nature of this north Idaho jurisdiction, prosecuting attorneys may be required to travel to major incidents with law enforcement agencies to participate in investigations, draft search warrants remotely, and oversee crime scenes while they are being processed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Although the selected attorney may be given deference on their preference for assigned caseload, this position requires knowledge of both civil & criminal law; powers and duties of the prosecuting attorney; legislative process; criminal procedure and rules of evidence. Attorney work will require both transactional and litigation skills.
Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited law school and a valid license to practice law in the state of Idaho is required before starting. Nature and extent of previous experience will be taken into consideration during the hiring process. Applicants must also pass any necessary criminal background checks required to work for a government agency and/or receive clearance for handling confidential information. Prior experience in prosecution or public entity representation preferred.
